Raised in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Sumner came to North Carolina to attend college at Wake Forest University. Although he ultimately settled down here in Greensboro, he is forever a fan of his home team, the Atlanta Braves. When asked what he does when he’s not at the office, Dr. Summer said he enjoys spending time with his family, letting his dog take him for a walk, taking pictures, coaching, escaping to the beach, fishing and playing tennis.
“While growing up as the oldest brother of three, I have helped take care of children for as long as I can remember. Helping to coach many of their teams and baby sitting also provided more experience for me and helped lead me to change from a planned career in law to a career in pediatrics. My pediatrician was influential as well as he was my mom’s pediatrician and pretty much seen as extended family. Even after a tremendous education in medical school and residency, I think I have learned as much or more from having children of my own (a son and a daughter). Children are our most precious resource and our hope for a better tomorrow. In addition to helping keep children healthy, it is my hope that I can be a partner in helping patients reach their full potential.”
